Most MD/CEO’s have a driving force. They don’t always set their way to be at the Apex of their careers within a time they know but they set their eyes on a price and ensure that whatever desires they have they achieve. MD/CEO of ClearPay, Mr. Joseph Oyibo started out in Norrenberger many years ago as one of the pioneer staff.

However, over time, marrying a culture of dedication and excellence, he prides himself in being one who can weather the storm and achieve whatever he sets out to do. Today, he sits at the Apex leader of the digital bank of choice, ClearPay, and sat down with us to speak about what inspires him.

  1. Speaking of your early career days, we heard you were with the Norrenberger Group. How has the experience been?

Mr J.O: I joined on August 8th, 2018. The experience was wonderful. There was this fear of whether we would be able to weather the storm or not. However, due to the leader’s agility, it was heartwarming that did scale through, and looking past their 5th-year anniversary celebration last month, I must say- Against all odds, they continue to thrive.

2.  Tell us about a memorable work moment in your career that defined who you are today?

Mr J.O: There are a lot of memorable moments. One of such moment was when the 2021 Financials came out at my prior workplace even after all COVID-19 struggles and limitations and we made a profit. We were not expecting to make a profit because of the cost we incurred within that period. It was a morale booster for me.

3. What is a life mantra that guides your life?

Mr. J.O: Never give up and don’t underestimate your ability.

4. What is it like serving as MD in a leading strategic digital bank like ClearPay?

Mr J.O: It is indeed an honour. Before now, most of my prior experience was in other financial areas but having to grow the bank and work with my team has really driven a  ”Business Development” role in me.  I had to navigate my way around heading the bank. It was challenging initially but with constant learning, I am able to surmount the challenges.

5. What pushes ClearPay team members to achieve their goals, and what is the future vision for ClearPay?

Mr J.O: ClearPay team members are wonderful. First is the buy-in of all the staff of ClearPay. Running with the vision became easier when I got their buy-in. The future of ClearPay is auspicious. With our goal to go fully digital, we are optimistic that the Bank will excel.

6. When you are not working, what do you like to do in your free time?

Mr J.O: I love my leisure time a lot. Most times, I watch movies, play football, read books, and pray.

7. What advice do you give young Nigerians that will help them during their growth years, especially with finance?

Mr J.O: My advice is for them to be focused, do not go for get-rich-quick schemes, and be diligent, dedicated, and loyal to the course. Endeavor to invest and adopt a saving culture no matter how minute the money may seem. It builds character and discipline for when the bigger funds start to come in. And finally, there is always light at the end of the tunnel-Persevere
